Lamoni's 8th Annual Civil War Days

Residents of Lamoni in Decatur County, Iowa, will hold their 8th Annual Civil War Days on Labor Day Weekend, Sept. 3 - 5. The Reenactment & Living History Festival is a well-established, regional cultural event in southern Iowa and northern Missouri that presents a multi-faceted, period-authentic representation of the American Civil War era. All period-authentic mainstream, campaign, and civilian impressions are welcome.

Cass County Democrats to Set up Campaign Headquarters

The Cass County Dems will gather Saturday and Sunday to set up the new campaign headquarters located in Atlantic at 511 Chestnut. They plan to be open daily -- M-F from 10 AM to 5 PM. They will be open Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 4 PM through Election Day, contingent on adequately staffed headquarters.

Supplies and equipment are needed, and all donations are welcome!

Multi-County Meet-the-Candidate event with Silent Auction, Special Guest Tom Harkin

Fremont, Mills, Montgomery and Page County Democrats are sponsoring a meet-the-candidate event and silent auction on Thursday, Sept. 9, at the Montgomery County Gold Fair Building in Red Oak. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m., and snacks will be served. Donations to offset expenses will be appreciated.

33rd Harkin Steak Fry

US Senator Tom Harkin will hold his 33rd Harkin Steak Fry on Sunday, September 12, from 1 - 4 p.m. at the Warren County Fairgrounds in Indianola. Tickets for the Steak Fry are $30 per person and $15 for students, and may be purchased online at www.tomharkin.com or by calling (515) 277-9966.

Kid's meal tickets are $5 for children ages 5 - 10 and are available at the gate the day of the event. If you would like to purchase tickets directly from the campaign, you may send checks to:

If your county is organizing a bus or van to Indianola, please contact Harkin's campaign office and they will reduce your Steak Fry tickets to $20 per person and student tickets to $10 in order to offset the cost of the bus. If you are interested in getting a group together, the office will send you a packet with the number of tickets you request, sign-up sheets, and return envelopes.
