About Iowa's 5th District
Iowa's 5th Congressional District (IDP5) encompasses the western third of the
state and includes 32 of Iowa's 99 counties.
IDP5's primary goal is to elect a Democrat to represent Iowa's 5th District. The organization also works with county parties on organization, GOTV efforts and party building.
District Central Committee members are elected on even years at County Conventions for a two year period. The committee consists of three members from each county, including the county chair.
Ryan Sewell of Council Bluffs is the current District Chair. There are three Vice Chairs: Dick Sokolowski of Holstein (northern counties), Les Lewis of Denison (central counties), and Kevin Shilling of Greenfield (southern counties). Monica McCarthy of Creston currently serves as secretary, and Jody Ewing of Onawa as treasurer.
