Welcome to Iowa's 5th Congressional District

We're the Left Coast of Iowa — the largest district in the state — with 32 counties running 196 miles from Minnesota to Missouri. We take our values seriously here: family and faith ... character and courage ... integrity and truthfulness ... and that most elementary but indispensable virtue -- basic human decency. Our goal is to elect a qualified Democratic candidate who will represent those values in Congress not just for Democrats, but for all Iowans.

We thank you for taking the time to visit, and welcome any feedback or suggestions regarding our website or district.

About our Candidate –
Matt Campbell

Our candidate for U.S. House is Matt Campbell of Manning, Iowa. Matt is a sixth generation Iowan and his family roots run deep. Matt graduated from Manning High School before earning his B.A. from Morningside College with a double major in political science and economics. He went on to earn law degrees from the University of Iowa and Georgetown University, where he earned his LL.M in taxation.

Matt has put his education and experience to work with everything from Youth Leadership to providing international tax services and representing numerous Fortune 500 companies. Despite his numerous accomplishments, Matt's genuine concern for his hometown district and his "Iowa's 5th District FastTech 50" economic development plan for western Iowa have earned him the respect of scores of bipartisan voters, many of whom have described him as unpretentious and able to connect with real working families.

Earning the Right

What does it take to earn the right to represent rural Iowa's 5th Congressional district?

  • Humility ... thou shalt not stoop to ridiculing others -- whether they agree with you or not

  • Understanding ... a thorough knowledge of economic challenges and the differing effects on individuals and businesses

  • Education ... about the issues, about the people, about demographics; 393,902 registered voters deserve nothing less

  • Experience ... having put one's education and skills to work with repeated successful results

  • Empathy ... for all creatures, great and small

  • Passion ... a true desire to serve, not spew divisive rhetoric

  • Restraint ... knowing there is a time to speak, a time to listen

  • Commitment ... to all Iowans -- not just single party voters

  • Connecting ... face-to-face and one-on-one with constituents (should not be the exception to the rule)

  • Gratitude ... for the privilege of being hired to serve one's district (elected officials are accountable to voters, not the other way around). Arrogance is not tolerated well.

  • Humility ... (yes, it is listed twice). Like traffic laws, ignorance is not an acceptable excuse.

Matt Campbell already has become a part of western Iowa's landscape. Voters know they needn't worry about sending him to Washington; he'll be back, and will remember all the roads less traveled where countless Iowans found they could still have a voice in their district's direction.

Iowa – and its people – are in Matt's blood. And when he returns to share in triumphs large and small, it's doubtful a podium will stand between and separate him from those who had the courage to let a district flourish under leadership that isn't about sound bites and maniacal fans, but rather putting trust in Iowans to contribute to ideas and decisions affecting their own lives.

County Fairs and other local events provide area voters a perfect opportunity to visit with and get to know candidates and where they stand on the issues.

Matt Campbell knows voters have questions, and the Fifth District US House candidate is making every attempt to ensure they not only get answers, but get to know him as well.

From county fairs to Rivercade and other community events, Matt has been traveling the district listening to concerns and talking about good jobs that keep communities vibrant.

As part of Matt's economic development plan for Western Iowa, he advocates that the Congressional office work with regional economic development groups to annually identify the 5th District's 50 fastest-growing businesses to retain and attract working families in western Iowa. It's all part of his "Iowa's 5th District FastTech 50" proposal.
